Rock Climbing in NepalRock climbing is an activity in which you will climb up or across natural rock formations or man-made rock walls with the goal of reaching the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a pre-defined route. Nowadays rock climbing has been very popular and adventure sport in Nepal. As Nepal is a mountainous country and there are many wonderful and perfect places for rock climbing

Rock climbing can be a dangerous sport and knowledge of proper climbing techniques and usage of specialized climbing equipment is crucial for the safe completion of routes.

There are about 5 Climbing Rock in Nepal that are cleaned and have pitons -- ready to use. The most popular is Nagarjun (just outside of Kathmandu) where most training happens. It is also the training grounds for Nepali Army Special Forces (where they learn to climb and repel). Here is some info. About climbing routes in Nepal:

Nagarjun :
It is located 3 Km North West of Kathmandu Valley and it is a great place to climb. There are 20 routes of varying difficulty, chimney climbs, overhangs and bouldering. The highest pitch is about 20 meters. To reach the climbing spot, we will have to hike 30 minutes from the entrance gate. This area is controlled by the army, and you must take a Nepali guide with you. The entrance fee is 250 Napier. We can arrange a rock climbing program with mountain bike cycling.

Hattiban :
Hattiban is located on a way to holy temple "Dakshinkali . About one and half hour drive from Kathmandu, this is a really technical rock and quite challenging. You have to hike about 20 minutes into the forest from the road to get to the rock. There is camping, etc. nearby.

Kakani :
Kakani is also about one and half hours from Kathmandu, there is only one small rock here with about 5 routes. But the mountaineering training grounds are nearby and there are really nice camping facilities. This is on some of the KTM valley trekking routes.

This rock is near Mt. Everest and is at 3800 meters. It is situated in the eastern part of Nepal, nearby Mt. Everest. It is a great training rock for those who are doing peak climbing or trekking in the area. There are 17 routes starting from grade 4c to 7c. This rock is multi pitch and about 200m high. Bimal Nagar -- This rock is situated in the south west from Kathmandu and it takes almost 5 hours by bus on the way to Pokhara. It is 140 km from Kathmandu and about 60km from Pokhara. It is just a five minute walk from the road. There are 5 fixed routes, but many other climbable routes for experienced climbers. This is a 4 pitch rock, and highest is 55 meters Site Bimal Nagar climbing site

Another interesting rock wall is situated on the slope of Shivapuri hill to the north of Kathmandu . Drive approx. 9 km up to Budhailkantha, the shrine of the sleeping Bishnu, then walk west from the bus stop the Vishnumati stream through terraced fields and enters the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife reserve. The granite faces here lie scattered about, and the big cliff in the center is equipped with a single route. Shivapuri hill, to the north of Kathmandu, has a fine rock wall on its slope. This is the valley's second highest mountain and a hike here is complete with village life, a Buddhist monastery, virgin oak and rhododendron forests and grand mountain views. This is also a protected watershed area and you may choose to visit the source of the Bagmati River. The summit of Shivapuri also commands a spectacular view of Ganesh Himal (7,111m),Langtang Lirung (7,245m) and Dorje Lakpa (6,966m). You rock-climbing trip here can combine all these experiences.
